"Simply one of the best"
We've been coming here for years and it was only after we had been for a meal last night that I realised I had never reviewed it on Tripadvisor ! That probably says it all - in many ways it feels like eating with family ! The food is second to none, it is cooked in the kitchen which is in full view of the restaurant, and the staff smile and are always personable. Don't expect opulent surroundings but do expect a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and amazing food. If you live in Leeds, like curry and have never been - you should ! If you are coming to Leeds for a city break, then it is only a 5min drive from the city centre (or a short taxi drive ) and the food far exceeds anything on offer in the city centre. Take aways and outside catering also available . Too good to miss !
We have always liked Rajas but hadn't eaten there for a while. Returning from a recent visit to India provided any small incentive needed to have a meal there last weekend. The business model is the simple one of sticking to what you do best. In this case it is selecting prime ingredients, combining them into a varied but not over-elaborate menu, cooking them fresh and serving them with friendly care and attention. It ought to work - and it does; superbly well and at a very attractive price.
" An Institution!"
I dined here with my Brother in Law and Sister knowing we would be eating authentic Indian food of the highest quality. Raja's is an institution and has been here for as long as i can remember. It boasts a mouth watering selection of starters and main courses. We chose a selection of fish and veg starters followed by Mushroom...
"Rejoice at Raja's"
Visited this small and friendly restaurant on the recommendation of a colleague and was very impressed. The menu specials are unique and well worth trying. After the standard poppadoms and pickles we all had the onion bhaji which were fresh and tasty. For main I chose a house special of lamb chops which I must say were perfectly prepared and cooked in one of the tastiest sauces I have had the pleasure of eating. After the meal the proprietor came over and chatted for some time which was a nice touch. A fantastic time and will definitely return.
The best Indian I've ever tasted!
Simply delicious. Do yourself a favour and visit this restaurant. I can't say enough good things about it.
"Great food great service"
I decided to come here with my friend; I had not been here since passing my driving test in 2001. My friend had never been. The staff were some of the politest staff I have ever seen. My friend and I were sharing 2 starters and the waiter said he would put some more Pakoras in there for us. The starters were AMAZING; the main courses were fantastic too. This is proper Indian food unlike these big chains today like Akbars and Aagrah.
"What's not to like?"
The service throughout was attentive without being obtrusive. The food was unspectacular to look at but lovely to eat. Fish pakoras were light and greaseless and the alu tikki had a deeply comforting taste. My niece didn't offer to share her dal soup but she scoffed the lot. The main courses matched the standard of the starters. Gosht bhunna, green chicken, chicken samundari, all went down very well though nobody was offering to share by this point in the meal. I had desi lamb which was scrumptious; the meat itself was incredibly tender and the sauce it came in was creamy without being cloying. The slices of lime helped with that and I could have licked out the bowl if nobody had been looking.
I spotted somebody, whom I later identified from the website as being the restaurant owner, coming to tables to chat to regular customers. It was nice that he also came over to our table to say hello and to ask how we were enjoying dinner. By the time we came to leave, the restaurant was filling up and people were starting to queue by the door. Despite that, nobody tried to hurry us into getting a move on to leave our table. I can't comment on the bill, since my brother was paying, but he nodded approvingly when he saw the total and made a point of commenting to the waiter that he thought it was excellent value.
I'm embarrassed to admit I've been driving past Raja's to go to places in the city centre which offer food and service that is nowhere as good as here, and for considerably higher prices. Needless to say, I'm a convert. My niece is already planning a return visit to Leeds with her boyfriend - guess where we'll be having dinner.
"authentic indian restaurant"
Great food and very good value. If you're expecting one these modern bright indian restaurants then Rajas is not for you. However, if you want the focus to be on the food and service then this is the place. It's not in the best area in Leeds but who cares....
We had 4 courses here (including poppadoms) and still had change out of £50 (for two). Plenty of choice on the menu and plenty of spice in the food - though it you like it mild then you'll be fine too.
"Best authentic north Indian food, bar none."
My dad and I had gone recently, as recommended by a friend. The service was fantastic, the was, without a doubt, the best real Indian cuisine we had ever tasted. The owner and all his staff were extremely pleasant and could not have been more accomodating. Safe to say, my dad and I will be going here til' we are old and grey.
The standard of food and the service is always consistent here - excellent! Beautifully cooked, tasty food, using all those fabulous aromatic herbs and spices. Its always piping hot and very nicely presented. Surroundings are not plush - so what? It has a great, friendly atmosphere and is excellent value too. Can't wait until my next visit!
